Treasure Hunters

This weekend we became pirates. We hunted treasure in the hills of the White Tank and Estrella Mountains. Mickey and Ernie are out visiting and they have showed us how to geocache. We've been wandering around the mountains with our compasses and our hand held gps unit.

The boys really enjoy it. They can pretty much run the entire way up the mountains to the cache. I am completely out of breathe and seeing spots by the time we reach the halfway point. I really need to get back in shape.

Marcus liked to hang back and walk with the grown ups. He fell a couple times and got a bunch of stickers in his hand but he was tough and got right back up.

Mike was the strong one who carried our 24 pound chub up and down the mountains. James has completely outgrown his baby backpack and it took me forever to get his oversized behind squeezed into it.

He didn't like it for very long, probably because his circulation was cut off, so he made the trip back down on Dad's shoulders.

This was where the first cache was hidden. We all got a few souvenir scratches from finding it.

This was the boys favorite cache. It was hanging under this giant dead Terabithia tree.

The boys enjoy the hunt way more than the actual treasure. I was a little scared that we were going to lift up a rock and find a family of scorpions or a snake but we lucked out.

They had such a good time finding the treasure we decided to hide one ourselves. Ours is hidden near our house so that we can go see how many people have found it every once and a while.

Life is always so exciting when the granparents come to visit. Today we are pirates and tomorrow we will be fisherman. I'm sure the boys are going to be real sad when they leave on Wednesday.
